Ministers’ Visit Marks Start of £1.1M Shared Space Project in East Belfast

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly and Junior Minister Aisling Reilly recently marked the beginning of the Hosford Community Homes project, a significant £1.1 million shared space initiative within East Belfast, backed by the Urban Villages Initiative. The project will convert a previously vacant site into six new apartments and a purpose-built community hub known as the Inclusion Hub. This space aims to offer vulnerable groups, including those at risk of homelessness, access to safe, supportive housing alongside a venue for community activities, workshops, and support services.

The ministers underscored the importance of fostering community integration and enhancing support networks for at risk populations. The Inclusion Hub will serve as a communal space where residents and the wider community can connect and participate in activities designed to strengthen ties and improve quality of life for all involved. By investing in spaces that promote social cohesion, the Urban Villages Initiative hopes to reinforce community resilience, ensuring this project positively impacts East Belfast’s future.
